The Gruppo Europeo di Interesse Economico del Traforo del Monte Bianco (GEIE-TMB) is a legal entity under EU law set up on 18 May 2000 on the initiative of the two concessionary companies for the construction and operation of the Tunnel: SITMB (Società Italiana per il Traforo del Monte Bianco S.p.A.) of Italy, and ATMB (Autoroutes et Tunnel du Mont Blanc S.A.) of France. Essential for ensuring the unitary maintenance and management of the Mont-Blanc Tunnel, this role was officially and authoritatively recognised by the international convention between Italy and France, which was signed in Lucca in 2006 and ratified by the Italian and French governments.
GEIE-TMB is entered in the Companies Register of Aosta, its registered office is in Courmayeur at the Tunnel apron on the Italian side, and it has a well-established organisation on French soil. It carries out its activities in its own name but on behalf of its members (SITMB and ATMB), with which it shares fifty percent of the income received from tolls and which it charges fifty percent of the costs incurred for Tunnel management.
Financial data is available in the financial reports published by the two concessionary companies:
